Providencia, Colombia- anybody been there...?

Post by mahojim »

I know, -again... wrong forum.
Just heard about this place. The beaches look remarkable, very small island, unbelievably rustic, decent accommodations...
Just trying to get ideas regarding the comparisons to STJ.
In so much as the following;
How to change U.S. dollars to pesos
A place to stay where we can actually cook meals where we stay, as well as enjoy the local joints to eat.
If you google any of the hotels/lodgings, not too many of the places have any type of kitchen accommodations. I hate to sound like a stupid american by saying that sometimes I like to just make burgers on the grill...
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, and always

What? You traitor. We have been to a lot of places Jim. Never there. I would suggest you look into The Keys. I think it may be one the places you may like.

What about the BVI's?
What about Great Exuma and Little Exuma. I know they just suffered a horrible hurricane, but they'll come back.
Bermuda....amazing, clean, fast to get to.

You know, STT has a lot of really neat places to go. The North end is like a jungle. Really pretty.

Can I ask why you're not going back to STJ?

Hey, Connie.
Of course I'll be visiting STJ again. Just poking around for something a little more rustic.
I read one review of Providencia that said it's like STJ back in the 50's. Yes, there's a.c,and atm's, and transportation.
Just looking around.

i have read that the beaches don't compare to those in Roatan (and that little corn -- in nicaragua is better than both) --

If you are seeking rustic, check out Middle and North Caicos in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The main island is Provo, which is serviced by most, if not all, of the major airlines. We have been twice and we went from home to sitting on the beach by noon.

I can get you more info when I get to work tomorrow.

Thanks, Dave.
If you can give me a pros/cons type list and add comparisons to STJ, that would be great!
Looking forward to hearing about it.
