Should we build a pool?

Post by seagrape »

Hi Forumites. We are going to pave our driveway this summer and put in more landscaping at our Coral Bay cottage. Question to all of you vacationers - How important is a pool to you? We are seriously considering building one this summer. We have afternoon sun all the way until sunset, so the water wouldn't be freezing as in some places we've stayed. We've always enjoyed a little dip after a day at the beach.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Seagrape,
What a nice dilemma to have! If you're asking about what renters look for, I can give my perspective. We've always rented houses with pools because we have kids. As they've gotten older, the pool seems less essential, although we like a pool. It was a "must have" when they were younger.

I would say, if you love a dip at the end of the day, go for it!

For us, a pool is essential. Young and older members of family agree.

A pool is more appealing to renters.

The presence of a pool is always a consideration, other things remaining equal. The pool at Bay House was chill enough that only two of four of us would get in. The pool at Callaloo was something we got in once or twice because it was a hike from the main living area. But, the pool was part of the selection process.

A pool is very important to us. We rented a great little house on Devers Bay in Feb. which had just built a new pool and we loved it and used it whenever we were home, day and night. We would love to rent in Coral Bay but could never find a house where there was sun throughout the day. If your house has full sun, tell me more. Where can we find more info??? What is the house's name and who manages? Thanks

For our family, a pool is a MUST....... we often spend the day at the villas and life revolves around the pool!

The cost of a pool on STJ you probaly won't recoop your costs very quickly. I'd look at it this way will it help rent the house probaly. Do you want it when you are there? also remember that you will need a weekly service to come in and take care of it more expense.

I would say it depends on how big the house is. If it's more directed to couples, the pool is not that important, but for families, it probably is.

I found a pool nice to have but definitely not need to have. You have the most beautiful ocean with fabulous water, and that's enough for me.

I believe that the house is Anchorage Aweigh, and is managed by Windspree.

We wouldn't rent a villa without a pool. And a hot tub is also important for us...
