villa review Fun and Contentment

Post by CBama »

I could not get logged in the villa review section so I will post here until problem is corrected. I will finish the rest of my trip reports later.

Fun and Contentment Villa June 20-27 2012

Our first stay on St John

We truly enjoyed our stay at Fun and Contentment. We especially loved the location…just two to three minutes up the hill by Cases by the Sea in Coral Bay. (which is across from Island Blues)

The first time up was adventurous but was fine the next time. Part of the road is concrete, part dirt and rocks with one switchback. We never met anyone which would have posed a problem. Easy drive to Salt Pond/Lamashur, or East End, or North Shore (Maho and Francis approximately 10-15 minutes) We made it back to Cruz Bay in approximately 20-25 minutes.

The villa is two bedrooms each with a King bed. The master has ensuite bathroom, two closets (one with safe), and shelving unit in bathroom. Second bedroom has one closet and bathroom right outside door and another closet which held household supplies, snorkel equipment, and we left two noodles.

There is plenty of room to park and turn vehicle around on flat parking area. There was an outside shower next to parking area along with two coolers, and four nice beach chairs. There were also some blow up floats which we didn’t use.

The Kitchen was well equipped with newer stainless steel appliances. We enjoyed the double refrigerate with freezer on bottom. I only cooked breakfast and made sandwiches, but the kitchen seemed to be well stocked.

There was a computer in the living room that used the TV as a monitor and also a printer. Only the TV in the living room had cable, but there were dvd’s for use in bedrooms. We didn’t come to St John to watch TV so this did not bother us.

The deck has wonderful views and a nice breeze on one end of the house where the pool and hot tub were located. The pool is not very big. (a nice size just to cool off in) A storm blew the cover off the hot tub one night, so that is what prompted us to try it. It felt very good after snorkeling all day…very relaxing. There was a new Weber grill on the deck along with four lounge chairs, table with four chairs and two wicker bench seating areas. We never used the grill.

There were awnings for shade but we never used them. We would come back to villa in afternoon, and if you stayed on the side where the pool was located the constant breeze kept you cool. So lack of shade was not an issue for us.

The washer and dryer are located in the basement which is reached by outside staircase. There is also a clothes line down there to hang towels, swimsuits, etc .

Minor annoyances: doors off deck are rotting and hard to open and close, faucet in bathroom is loose and does not have a nut and bolt to tighten to correct

Windows would not open. We were told to pull from outside while cranking from inside, but we still could not get some of the windows open. (villa rep said they could not get parts to fix the windows would have to be replaced)

There is AC in bedrooms so this helped. We were on island during a heat wave (90’s), but we were never inside the house during the day. If you planned to stay in the house during heat of day it might pose a problem during another heat wave.

Problems with the windows would not prevent us from renting the house again if we only needed two bedrooms. The location and view and price made up for the inconvenience.

In the picture of the villa from below you can see another villa right above F&C. No one stayed there during our visit so I don't know if noise would be an issue from that villa.

I always wondered why everyone did not post more pictures of the villa. Now I understand! Upon arrival we were ready to go to dinner, and then the next morning to get to a beach. By the time I realized I had not made pictures of the villa, it wasn’t clean anymore.

Nice review. I like the view from there.

Do you know what the villa name is that is right above it?

momto3boys: I dont now..someone that has stayed in the area might..

there was also another house to the right and above. the same road goes to all three of these houses..

the house to the right had a crazy turn to get positioned to go up to that house! We watched someone go up one night....but I couldnt see when they made the turn, I would think you would have to pull up and back up to make it. We never heard anyone from above us.

You could hear Island Blues Karaoke on two nights..but it wasn't bothersome.

Thanks for this review! Do you happen to remember if there was a pullout couch or anything to that nature in any of the rooms? From the photos it didn't look like the kings could be made into twins either. Thanks!

the Kings could not be made into twins.....and the couch was a sectional...

there was a chair in each bedroom, but I don't think it was long enough to sleep on.

rental company might provide a cot or blow up bed??
