Great stuff. Thanks for making the effort and taking the time to post. Proof that when in the right hands, the image quality of the Canon S series can rival the G series.

Re: Who's been to Maui?
The Hyatt is where we stayed for 4 nights, using 2 free nights for signing up for their credit card, then got upgraded to oceanfront by the nice folks at the front desk. This will be your view at Maui Hyatt if you have oceanfront. https://c5.staticflickr.com/8/7256/27040026356_86b91aa931.jpg https:/...

Re: Who's been to Maui?
We found more opportunities to offset the higher airfare to HI in Kauai than in Maui, making a trip to Kauai more comparable to STJ than to Maui. The Maui resort and resort adjacent areas have prices for drinks and restaurants meals that can easily equal or surpass those on St. John or the prices in...

I am also a big fan of Frommer's "Day by Day" pocket size books.
The Maui version has lotsa maps, lotsa good "best of" suggestions - - of course, best when cross referenced with other sources.

Haleakala volcano. Yes - getting up at an un-Godly hour, driving the twisties up the mountain, and dressing for the 25-30 degree temperature difference is WORTH IT if you get a good sunrise. Awe inspiring. https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7273/26469228173_1b4ddefe60.jpg https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/75...

Re: March Trip Report
CM - water was fine. The girls might have preferred it a touch warmer. No significant seaweed. One day (forget which beach) there were a lot of floaties in the water i.e. what I call small translucent organisms (not just plant matter/runoff) in the water that were just slightly irritating - and not ...

Re: March Trip Report
Great report as always. Your Hawaii pictures are beautiful. Seeing those first kind of made me feel like I was watching an episode of House Hunters International when they just randomly intersperse photos of other islands in the episodes that are supposed to be about St. John  Thanks. I think ...

Re: March Trip Report
Thanks Pickle. Those are shots from Maui only as I had already posted a bunch of shots from prior trip to Kauai some years ago on the OT forum. Plus, I didn't even get near the quality of shots when we went over to Kauai on this trip. BTW, I have noticed that images I embedded from Picasaweb back wh...

March Trip Report
Greetings all After trips to central Europe in 2014 and a 2 week trip to Maui and Kauai last July, in March, our family of 3 finally got back to STJ. We had never been to Maui before, and since I never posted anything about it here on the OT forum (and, as you may be aware, I do loves me the photogr...

Re: Coming back for our 3rd year - any dreaded sea lice?
Several species of jellyfish do have reproductive spawning of larvae 8-10 days after a full moon. Not all species do, and it is poorly understand And, according to this, it sounds like some precautions you might take is to shave your head and swim naked :D   The many nematocysts surround...

Re: Advice on snorkel fins
Some personal observations re masks: If you have a lot of trouble with regular masks fogging, one way to help to reduce that is to really concentrate on breathing out of your mouth only, as any nose breathing in the mask will contribute to fog up. Another option now for those who suffer from mask fo...
