Other Favorite Destinations?
Other Favorite Destinations?
We're trying to figure our where to go with our two kids (5 and 9) in March. St John is always on the top of our list, but after seven visits, we're thinking of trying another island (but not St Croix since we've been there). We're wondering what other islands those who have been to St John would recommend? If it matters, we'd like to keep the lodging under $5000 for the week. Or if you can direct us to forums similar to this for other islands, that would be great.

Gold coast of Austrailia but the flights would be a killer for only 1 week. St Lucia.

Kauai HI. Compared to STJ, you can find some pretty nice lodging at great prices here
http://www.kauaivacationrentals.com/ and on VRBO, and, cheaper car rental help offset any airfare differences.

If you want extreme quiet: Dominica, Vieques. The Caymans, any of them, are great for families, the Grenadines are nice.
Re: Other Favorite Destinations?
If you enjoy beautiful white sand beaches, clear blue water, friendly locals, reasonably priced accomodations, modestly priced eateries and no car necessary you might consider Isla Mujeres, Mexico. IM is an opposite of its neighbor, Cancun and is a favorite alternative to STJ for us. Check out http://www.islamujees.info.

If you are looking for a Caribbean Island that may well become your next favorite destination try this one -- absolutely one of my favorite off the beaten path places down here.

St. Lucia or Grenada offer similar islands with great snorkeling. They also have ziplining and volcano ( STL ) and monkeys ( Grenada ). I used Tripadvisor in planning those trips.

I've been researching Vieques, which seems to be similar to St. John but less built up. We haven't been yet, but if you love St. John you might want to look closely to Vieques.
