8 years ago today; Island Horizons memory
I was sitting alone on a couch listening to Harry Kallas announce that the Philadelphia Phillies were the World Series Champions of baseball.
I cried, called my sister. All I could hear on the other end of the phone was screaming, cheering, laughter.
My Sweetheart Amy and our friends were on the patio playing Scrabble.
I went into the bedroom happily sobbing, trying to compose myself.
It was a strange and lonely happy feeling.
My sister, father, and I had been to quite a few of the playoff games leading up to the World Series. I had booked the trip to STJ months prior, -never dreaming that the Phillies would be in the running.
I sure did cry missing my family and the parade in South Philly, and the joy...
8 years ago tomorrow, I drew a Phillies "P" in a heart in the sand of Maho. The sun was brilliant, and I cried again.
One of my favorite trips, -forever bittersweet.

I have a similar memory, June 19, 2006. Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup; my husband’s birthday, and overlooking Great Cruz Bay and STT from Hawksnest Villa. The next day we rode around STJ with a Hurricane’s flag on the window and our grandchildren walked up and down Maho in their Hurricane’s t-shirts giving high fives to everyone. You gotta love St John memories. (ps We were season ticket holders and this was the only game we missed in twelve years)

Right on.
Rod Brindamour has always been one of my favorite Flyers. I was cheering the Canes on as well that year.

"There's no crying in baseball!"
