Before you make the plunge, read some reviews and take suggestions from the forum. Don't aim too low when choosing a camera. I've never heard anyone complaining that the camera they bought is too good.

Don't rule out used and refurbished cameras from dealers and manufacturers.

Yay me!!! I just ordered the Panasonic because it was only $129 thru Groupon and I really wanted an underwater camera for my next trip in December. The price is what attracted me along with it appearing to be an easy camera to use. I'm thrilled to hear that someone says it does a decent job. My husband keeps buying me expensive cameras with all the fancy adjustments and options but I HATE trying to figure out how to use them. I'd rather have something point and shoot with no fuss. I usually press something accidentally on the fancy ones and wind up with some weird settings that I can't get rid of. And figuring out a water proof case for one of them??? Forget it. Now if I could just get him to buy me a smart phone instead.....the man thinks we need the most technologically advanced cameras yet he wants me to use a trac phone. Go figure. Next time my son's in town we're going shopping for a phone!!

I've bought the point and shoot variety designed for underwater use to avoid fooling with an external case.

We've had a Nikon AW100 for the past two years and it works very well, I like it.

Bump/update >> lots more choices these days (see link). Some of these look pretty cool.

Anybody used any of these or similar?
