NOTE: Blue Moon on December 31st!
There will be a blue moon on New Year's Eve. Just a reminder for anyone lucky enough to be here for that:
Thursday December 31st: Moonrise: 5:56pm
Let's all hope for a CLEAR sky that night...
Here's my photo of the first full moon on December 2, 2009 looking east across John's Folly from our backyard:
A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. The last New Year's Eve blue moon was 1990 and the next one won't come again until 2028.

Sunrise & Moonrise on Ram's Head
Some customers told me today they are going out to Ram's Head to watch the sunset & the moonrise on December 31st. I think going to a place where you can see both the sunset & the moonrise is a GREAT idea. That happened to me once on a beach on Anguilla. (For those who don't know, Ram's Head is the Southeastern most point of St. John, to get to it you hike from Salt Pond. I've never been out there, I'm thinking December 31st I should go.)
Anyone else know a spot on St. John where you can see both horizons?

Re: Sunrise & Moonrise on Ram's Head
I just read an old trip report from someone who had done this. Then I noticed that our next trip (at the end of March) will have a full moon, so I'm planning on doing this expedition on the night of the full moon. Perhaps other forumites will want to join in.TouristTrapCheryl wrote:Some customers told me today they are going out to Ram's Head to watch the sunset & the moonrise on December 31st.
