ZoZo's and Mooies

Post by Betty »

A couple of years ago I had a very disappointing dinner at ZoZo's that i reported on the forum and I was flamed for it ;) Tonight we re-visited ZoZo's for the first time and I can say is we were totally WOWED. I have no food porn and I am not a food critic like Liamsaunt but we appreciate good food, good flavors and excellent service! ZoZo's totally delivered, my husband and I shared the Crab Cappellini first course and my husband had the giant grilled garlic shrimp with Garlic Rissotto and I had the Osso Bucco. Both were so flavorful and cooked to perfection! ZoZo's has an excellent wine list and is one of the few restaurants in St John to serve Lemoncello. It was our best meal so far this trip :)

After dinner we went to Mooies to watch American Idol finals with the wonderful Theodora Moorehead owner of Mooies. I know many on the forum favor the Beach Bar, but if you want to pass the time with one of the great legacy's of St John and really hear some great St John history, I can't urge everyone enough to stop by and visit with Theodora and support a dear local St John Lady!!!!!!

Many years ago we had a horrible experience at ZoZo's. In fact, it might have been called something different then. (Someone, help me with the name of the place before it was Zozos!!). In any event, we were so turned off by the place we've never been back.

Hearing this and others recently, we probably should give it another shot. The view from the bar cannot be beat, that's for sure. And, we miss the Stone Terrace so much. Maybe this is the answer...

Thank you for the live update!

Thanks...we've been trying to think of that all night.

It's kind of like...hmmm...what was the name of the Jetson's son. And, then in the middle of the night, Elroy comes to you.

Ah, Ellington's...of course. Now we can sleep.
Wisconsin, smell the dairy air

Zozo's has been at Gallows Point Resort since 2002.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your evening there, Betty.

I HIGHLY second the recommendation on going to Mooie's!! We had the best time getting to know Theodora last week....talking with her, learning so much of the history of her family, STJ & her encouragement to us to go visit Mr. Guy Benjamin (whom we went to his house & had the most wonderful visit with him!...spend time to do this: it truly left a lasting impression on my husband, myself, daughter & son-in-law).

She is a very well traveled lady who loves her family & STJ....another living legend family here on STJ not to be missed.

We drifted into Mooie's one evening on our first trip to STJ and have made it a point to drop by whenever we're on the island. It's a very local experience and we find it a whole lot more interesting than being at Woody's or the Beach Bar. Another place we always get to is the Sputnik Bar in Coral Bay. Most tourists don't get to the local places. For us they're a big part of going to the Caribbean.

Betty, you aren't the only one. The first one or two visits to Zozo's, I had a "what is all the fuss about, it is just ok" opinion. Our last trip was really fantastic and we look forward to going again in February.
