Important info if you rent car on St Thomas

Post by iheartsj »

This was posted on the Port Authority facebook page today. When one barge is running it is not unusual to have 2-5 hour line waits. You can avoid this by renting your car on St. John

VIRGIN ISLANDS PORT AUTHORITY
The Virgin Islands Port Authority was notified by Global Marine, Inc. that its car ferry, the General II, is scheduled for its annual US Coast Guard inspection. The General II will be on dry dock beginning August 16, 2018 and will be out of service for up to two weeks.

While the General II is out of service, there will only be one car ferry servicing the Cruz Bay/Red Hook route. Love City Car Ferries, Inc. will provide car ferry service per the following schedule:

Cruz Bay Departure
6:15 AM
8:00 AM
10:00 AM
12:00 PM
2:00 PM
4:00 PM
6:15 PM

Red Hook Departure
7:00 AM
9:00 AM
11:00 AM
1:00 PM
3:00 PM
5:00 PM
7:00 PM

Extended wait times are anticipated. VIPA apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the public in advance for their cooperation with the dock employees.

Interesting article Ed. No doubt a new barge is needed. I could not believe a barge would cost 4 million! That's a lot of trips back and forth just to break even.
