Re: What the what?

CBL on departure day is now a last day rite of passage for us. One more great meal, breakfast, before leaving the island we love. I thought things couldn't get better than JJ's, but I think the owners of CBL have really done it up right, for what it is.

Re: What the what?

Thumbs up on the Cruz Bay Landing. While we loved (and miss JJ's) we have eaten at CBL several times our last trip, and it was always good with good service. A favorite.

Re: St John vs Hawaii snorkeling

Thanks..... spending all day at the beach broiling in the sun ceased to be fun way back when I was in my late 30's, probably. So we'll check it out and grab the sea grape shade on the left by getting there early. I keep hearing reports that the snorkeling is very good to just passable for Vies/Hanse...

Re: What the what?

54b, you may already know this, but as far as beach changes go, there have been some at Honeymoon. Parking at Caneel, if you go that route, is now $20. Was free, then $10, now $20. Of course, if you spend $20 or more there, then it doesn't cost you (sort of). And you may know there is now a concessi...

Re: It won't be long.....

Air fares: As noted by kklay above, we're from Ohio and it's always $600-$700 RT. I read this forum, and long for the $300-$400 fares I see other fliers routinely get. I understand how airfare pricing works, but.....seriously? We have a choice of 2-3 airlines, with 1-stop service to STT, but the pri...

Re: Active Octopi?

I'm just encouraged by Ed S. We go to Lameshur all the time, spend a lot of time on the left side, but have never seen any octopi. Maybe this year. I'll look for the shell garden as noted above!

Re: What the what?

Two thumbs up for the North Shore Deli. While we liked the old place, the new owner/menu suits us just fine. Great grub for a very reasonable price. We have talked to the new owner several times, and he has tons o' hospitality experience and seems very dedicated and very customer-oriented. We can't ...

Re: Two informative underwater videos

Absolutely beautiful. We've seen those Paolmeta Jacks every time at Hawksnest, Little Lameshure and Honeymoon as well. Actually, probably every beach on STJ.
And, for the record, as I'm sure all of you know, it's Angelfish, not Anglefish.
Great stuff!

Re: How Long Before Flight Should I Get There?

Others will weigh in with their opinions and helpful information, but our experience has been that it depends on what day you are flying out. We now always fly during the week, and don't usually run into large crowds. Still, we try to arrive at STT airport at least 2 hours ahead of departure, since ...

Re: St John vs Hawaii snorkeling

And since it seems like I've been to almost every other beach on STJ *other* than Vies/Hansen, what are the snorkeling conditions around there? I'd love to know....

Re: St John vs Hawaii snorkeling

If you pay Vie to use the beach, can you bring your own beach chairs? And does anyone know if there is much in the way of shade on that beach?

Re: St John vs Hawaii snorkeling

I went to Hawaii 6 times, though it's been 15-20 years. Going back to STJ for our 8th time this summer. Snorkeled on Oahu, Maui and Kauai many times. Water in Hawaii is a little colder, depending upon when you go to STJ. Some of the Hawaii snorkeling is pretty spectacular, some not so much. Some of ...

Re: Villa Help - sunsets!

That stunning pic is no exaggeration. We've seen sunsets of that caliber every time we stay on Gifft Hill in one of those villas. And Coconuts and Plumeria are just a *little* bit nicer because they're up a smidgen higher than the other two...

Re: Villa Help - sunsets!

Coconuts, Plumeria, Palm Villa and Cloud9 all experience some of the best sunsets we've ever seen from STJ. All due to their location high on Gifft Hill. The sunsets there are so spectacular they almost become routine. Almost.

Re: Any jellies lately.

We were at Trunk Bay yesterday. Only jellies we found were "moon" jellies, and only out around the point on the right side of the bay. We swam thru tons o' them, no problems with them, as usual. Inner bay was just fine, clear. All day today at Honeymoon, completely clear. No jellies, no sa...
