Re: Hotel near airport
I second the Emerald Beach for convenience. Depending on amount of luggage we've walked to the airport in the am. We liked that early morning flight for where we live, otherwise we have to take a late afternoon one and end up not getting home until midnight with the drive. That's hard going to work ...

Re: First Drink?
There is of course the obligatory welcome rum at the airport....nice new location/set up for that we saw in November :) Otherwise, it's a beer while waiting for the Red Hook ferry. My decompression starts the moment I step out of the airplane and onto the ramp and the humidity hits me and then waiti...

For all who posted about ziplock bags....must be I'm missing something, I've never used them in our trips....fill me in on their secret use  And remind me how baby powder works again? you shake it on when you have sand sticking to you and it helps rub the sand off easier? I need to try that. I'...

Re: STJ Villa for two?
Hi there, Do you have a budget? Time of year you're thinking of going? There's low season rates and high season rates (usually start mid December) and holiday rates too. Villas often rent by the number of people, so you can even look at big places and see what their two person rate is. Then there's ...

Re: Transportation from airport to Red Hook
I have to admit St. Thomas has the rudest taxi drivers I have experienced anywhere in my travels. I often find this to be true and that the overcharging is a problem. On top of that, the taxi drivers rarely EVER say anything to you even if you try to initiate a conversation. We've been coming to th...

Re: Hotel on STT
We have stayed at a number of different places on STT, most recently the windward passage downtown (years ago it was the holiday inn, still often referred to as such). If you want specifically near the airport we have stayed at the emerald beach and it was very nice. We walked to the airport in the ...

Re: Other Islands...Which one would you choose?
Hi Sherban We just got back from 10 days in Virgin Gorda. We love STJ and the BVIs, so here are some thoughts for your consideration. We took ferries in North Sound to visit BIras Creek, Bitter End and Saba Rock. North Sound is a scenic area Happy planning! Thanks for the report, we are going in a ...

Re: Other Islands...Which one would you choose?
We are heading back to Virgin Gorda and Jost next month after going there for our first visit last December. We've been going to STJ since 1996 for maybe a dozen visits. I can't speak for the snorkeling because we don't but for the relaxing we would give both islands two thumbs up! VG has a number o...

Re: Searching for small coastal towns to visit/retire
Thanks so much for that information Puddlejumper. From the previous posts I'd marked down Southport as a definite stop in a coastal vacation trip. We are still a number of years off from retirement, but we are going to start checking places out this next year. We are thinking of visiting Oregon in F...

Yep, the loft would be an older kids type sleeping quarters, IMHO.
Loved that location though for boat watching, sunrises and walking proximity to places.
