Re: St John vs Hawaii snorkeling

I was last in Hawaii about 20 years ago. At that time the snorkeling was amazing, but again that was before global warming. My memories of snorkeling in St. John in that time period are very different from the way it is now. The major difference is not in the snorkeling, I think, but in the water it...

Re: Green Flash

Saw it once many years ago in St. Croix. You are lucky. All the years I've been coming to St. John I've never seen it there!

Pretty amazing eh?

Re: AirFares??

Have you tried signing up to airfarewatchdog.com? You plug in your airport and destination and they send you emails when the cheap airfares pop up. The airlines have a very complicated system for determining fares. You book too early and you pay more. Book too late and pay much more! Then its not ju...

Re: provisioning on STT

I agree with all of the above with one caveat: Buy less than what you think you'll need. With all the great restaurants, smoothie stands and lunch stops on STJ, you'll wind up eating out more than you planned. (At least that's what always happens to us.)

Re: Any ideas for flights from PHL

BTW, $550.00 per person is way more than what I would spend. I troll all the cheap airfare sites and usually pay around $250-350.

Re: Any ideas for flights from PHL

Hi, I live in the PHL area and I never fly out of Philly. Too expensive and way too inconvenient. We've gotten some good deals out of Newark (which for us is equidistant from Philly), done Spirit out of AC a couple of time (ugh). At one time that was the cheapest way to go but no more. Last couple o...

Re: Books, Apps, or Web sites

Thanks for the info and web sites. I hadn't found one of them yet and it seems to be a good source of info. Have you ever been to Marina Cay? Or Great Camanoe? It sounds like we could rent a Kayak on Marina Cay and explore that area. Sorry never been to either. I know there's a ferry that goes to Ma...

Re: Books, Apps, or Web sites

Ok, here we go. I'll try to answer your questions. Culturally BVI's are very similar to USVI's and as such being polite and respectful goes a long way. It is always good to remember it's their island and we're only visitors. Tortola is has steeper hills and crazier roads than STJ, (if you can believ...

Re: Books, Apps, or Web sites

Same here. Stayed in Tortola many times. Even got married there.
What do you want to know? Where in Tortola are you staying?
Might try: www.b-v-i.com/ or www.bviwelcome.com/

As far as I know there's nothing the equivalent of books you mentioned.

Re: zurich or brussels or paris in february?

I went to Paris, Brussels & Amsterdam a few years ago in February. I might be stating the obvious but it was very cold! So we couldn't do many of the activities normally associated with these cities: outdoor cafes and beer gardens, strolling through plazas and parks, etc. So being relegated to i...

Re: Car barge

Since you have to be at the airport at least 2 hours before the flight, I would take the 9am car barge. 10 am might be cutting it too close.
And as far as I know they don't take credit cards.

Re: Last Day - Magen's Bay or STJ?

Magen's Bay is a lovely beach. Well worth seeing. Not sure how difficult to get to it would be from Red Hook. But I would plan on it taking at least 45 minutes from there to the airport. In my opinion going would depend mostly on two things: If there are cruise ships in town that day and what day of...
