Re: Safe Sea Lotion
I bought the kids version of Safe Sea Lotion with SPF 30. I have sensitive skin, so I decided to try the kids version. I was using it and didn't get any stings, then one day snorkeling at the Indians, I got a sting on my face that hurt like crazy, then the pain went away after a few minutes. I reali...

Re: Is everything Brown or Lush and Green
We just got home on Tues from the BVIs, which are also very brown and dry. We took a boat back to STT, and rode by St John on the way. It was very brown and dry. We came into Crown Point marina, and on the way in, we noticed that area of St Thomas was very green, compared to every place else we had ...

Re: Stinging Plankton???
This isn't report from STJ, but we just got back from 11 days in the nearby BVIs, and encountered stinging somethings, so I thought I would offer my 2 cents. We snorkeled in various places every day and each of us got stung once. My hubby never felt the sting, but got a few nasty looking blisters on...

Re: Southwest/West Florida islands trip report
Thank you for sharing your trip report. My hubby and I enjoy the west coast of Florida, so I liked hearing about it. I've only driven through AMI and stopped at a little park overlooking the water. It was a pretty area. My parents who live in Venice have said "there's no good place to eat"...

Re: Air Sunshine
We have taken Air Sunshine twice - from San Juan to VG. Flights were fine both times - no issues. The most recent trip was Oct last year. It was nice to get there quickly and without going the multiple ferry route. The plane we took was very small - 9 seater, as I recall. The only thing I didn't lik...

Re: snorkle vest
From a safety point of view, I would recommend you go with vests, rather than belts, especially for the kids. I know the belts are more comfortable, but if you get into rough water or a current, or get a leg cramp, or a variety of other things, the vest is a better option for keeping your head afloa...

Re: Aria, Bayview - Ajax Peak??
We stayed at Bayview about 5 years ago. It had great views from both sides of the house. The porch has a view of Coral Bay and Bordeaux, which was beautiful, and the patio has a view to the north shore. It seemed like the vegetation was growing such that it would eventually block the north shore vie...

Wow - looks it was a really bad fire. We have enjoyed many meals there over the years. Very sorry to see it gone and I hope they can rebuild. Thoughts and prayers to the owners.

Re: Concordia tips?
The comment about storing food in bins reminded me of an item we take on all trips. Ziploc bags of various sizes to store our food and take miscellaneous items to the beach. Its really important to store your food in sealed containers in the Caribbean. We've had ants and birds help themselves to ban...

Re: Concordia tips?
We stayed in an efficiency unit (not a tent) in 2006 for a few days before we moved to a villa. We really enjoyed our stay there. Its on our list to stay there again some time. You may know that there are a lot of stairs, and it wasn't well lit (when we were there). We brought headlamps (flashlight ...

Re: Suggestions for Something Different?
One year, we enjoyed a walk up to Peace Hill, then down to Denis Bay. The hike to Peace Hill is short and easy. You are rewarded with fabulous views of turquoise waters of all hues, the beach, and out to sea. There are remains of a sugar mill too. Then we walked down to Denis Bay (spur off trail to ...

Re: Sirenusa poisoning - any update?
Tradewinds posted an article yesterday (4/22) about this situation. The investigation led back to Puerto Rico, which seems to be the source of the pesticide in STT/STJ. The article says the EPA investigation has found possible mis-use in various locations in Puerto Rico. I have the impression from t...

Re: Any thoughts on Villas, Easy Breezes, Palm Vista, Coyoba
Hi FMZ, I haven't stayed in any of these, but I thought I would make a couple of observations. When I read about a villa that I am not familiar with, I like to look at the website and see if I would stay there. Of course, these comments are based upon characteristics that we consider important. Coya...

Re: Thinking of visting Virgin Gorda
Yes, what they said :D I agree with everything the others said about VG. We enjoy both StJ and VG - they are different experiences and both wonderful in their own ways. VG definitely is much more of the West Indian culture and slower paced than StJ. We've been to VG twice, the most recent in Oct 201...
