Re: DPNR warns Stay Awy From All Beaches
I think that applies mostly to STX. We haven't really had much heavy rain.

Re: Bringing Wine?
I highly recommend all of you wine drinkers check out Island Cork and owner/operator Paul Tsakeres. He has an excellent selection of wines in his shop, all stored properly. And if you know what you want, call him before your stay and he will get it for you. He is also great at making suggestions. He...

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations
No problem at all! Glad I could help out. I know it is so frustrating to get so much conflicting information. Unfortunately, that is not too uncommon here. I reached out to Beverly because she has always been so responsive and helpful. And figured since the hotel tax is something that she is intimat...

How cool! Have a blast! I know that the owners of Property King on St. John are fans. Just have to look at their trucks to figure that one out

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations
It is my understanding that the 12.5% is applied to the whole cost, including any fees, as in the gross cost of the rental. Our Gross Receipts tax that businesses pay of 5% also works in this way.

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations
I'm with you on this one Jim. If you think an owner might have to pay 20% to a management company, 5% in gross receipts, and then take another 2.5% hit for the increase, it seems like it could be hard for some. Especially figuring that most of the villas are booked solid through April and even furth...

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations
I am more than happy to send the pdf file to anyone who wants it. You can send me a private message with your email address. I went right to Ms. Nicholson-Doty and she emailed me right away. I personally have a lot of respect for her. She has done some pretty terrific things to boost tourism in the ...

Re: New 12.5% Hotel Tax on Existing Reservations
I emailed the Commissioner of the Dept of Tourism and she sent me this release. Hopefully this will clarify things a bit: Dear Partners: Please be advised that effective January 1, 2016, the U.S. Virgin Islands Hotel Room Tax will increase from 10 percent to 12.5 percent for accommodations occupied ...

Re: should we bring cloth or disposable diapers?
If your room at the Westin has a washer and a dryer, I would say stick with the cloth diapers. They have their own reverse osmosis plant. So water conservation is a little less important than keeping things out of the landfill. Just be sure you have a washer and dryer in your room first.

Yesterday there were none at Gibney/Oppenheimer. Four days ago there were a few at Hawksnest, but not many. I never got stung, but heard a few people coming out of the water saying they got stung by something.

Try calling her again. It's not uncommon for cell phone service to go in and out, especially on some parts of the island. I just saw Michelle a couple of days ago, so she is around

You can try Cleve at Local Flavor, capt_cleve@yahoo.com 340-513-1431. He's a great guy, but he is also a superb captain. He was literally raised on the water here and has love for it like no other I have met. John and Cleve are the two captains I recommend

The skeeters are out for sure. I went for a little morning shore fishing yesterday and even with a good breeze the no-see-ums tore me up. I wore long sleeves and jeans, but they swarmed my hands and face. I regrettably didn't bring the bug spray and ended up with no fish and a lot of bites of less d...
