Re: America Hill Hike, Ruins, & View
We just did this hike a few weeks ago. We continued on to where it ends on Centerline Rd. Turning right, we walked close to half a mile to the VINP sign where you can walk in and see the Catherineberg ruins. Beautiful! Then we walked down John Head Rd. back down to North Shore Rd. There is a monster...

Re: Tourist Trap - not closing??
We were just there last weekend and asked about the situation. We were told that "it looks good" for them to stay open. Not a lot of details but something to do with the landlord of the property.

Re: Private taxi from airport to red hook
You don't have to book a private taxi ahead of time. We were scheduled to arrive last Thursday at 5:15 so I didn't want to book ahead if we weren't going to make the 6:00 ferry anyway. We did arrive on time, no checked bags, so we ran to the dispatcher and asked for a private taxi for 5 people. $90 ...

Re: Experiences with spirit air
I have never flown Spirit because I have read all terrible things about them. I will say that I have noticed that it doesn't seem to pay to book early on other carriers anymore. United flights out of Newark were pricy back in October but got cheaper by January for Spring flights. I would wait.

Re: car rental suggestions
We have used Conrad Sutton, Varlack and Penn's with no problems. Varlack once had no car for us because it was still being repaired so they found another rental for us from someone else.

Re: be aware of your surroundings
Connie, most of the downtown area is pretty well lit and populated until midnight or later. These incidents were outside of town. The two main areas are Mongoose Junction and Wharfside Village, where the Beach Bar is. I have been to STJ on girls trips and been out as late as midnight and felt fine. ...

Re: Aruba/st john
We rented villas for several trips: Villa Zebra, Three Dolphins, Kamique, Zenaida. We have also stayed at Cuisinart and Shoal Bay Resort ( that doesn't sound right, I have to look that up ).

Re: Aruba/st john
You may want to check out Anguilla. Beautiful beaches with calm, crystal clear water. Some beaches have snorkeling from shore. Not as good as STJ but enough to keep you entertained for a while. Great food with lots of restaurants and bars right on the beach. It's our second favorite island after STJ.

Re: shipping costs - container and boat
We shipped 2 containers in 2012 from Pennsylvania. Crowley was cheaper than Tropical and it was also cheaper to have them go by rail to Florida and ship from there rather than ship from NJ. We packed both ourselves and only had one glass plate break. No boat so I can't help with that.
Good luck!
