Not recent (19 years ago), but have stayed a couple of times and enjoyed the house and the location. I drove out there this year and the road is paved just about the whole way now.

Stayed there ten years ago, before the remodel & pool addition. It's a great home with fabulous Northshore views and is very private. The road was pretty bumpy, but well worth it in my opinion. It must be one of the very best rental values on the island! (And Mary-Phyllis at Privte Homes is a re...

What IS that aroma???

Alright all you experts! This has been bugging us for years! There is one particular aroma we catch here and there on St John EVERY time we visit. We'll be driving along and WHIFF...THERE IT IS...OUR ISLAND SMELL! Okay, so it reminds me vaguely of something a bit skunky, mixed with the aroma of fres...

"Roll-over" for St john on the menu bar

I seem to have lost the :?: roll-over up on the menu bar for St John. Works fine for St Croix and St Thomas, but don't know how to get to reviews without it?

I will mention that Stone Terrace has some incredible finds on their wine list at reasonable (for what you get) prices. (For example, in August we enjoyed a 1997 Freemark Abbey Bosche Cab that was killer!) I like all of the ones on your list though. I'll throw in an extra vote for La Tapa as well. E...

Wellll......our "scientific" test of ONE, yielded no beneficial results in August. That said, others swear by them!

My wife just swore AT them.

I'll add that as long as I stayed next to her, the mosquitos left me pretty much alone!

Thanksgiving Day

Hey folks,

Looks like we'll be on STT on our cruise on Thanksgiving day. Anyone know if that will impact:

1. the ferry schedule to STJ
2. store hours/ restaurants on STJ
3. anything else?

Thanks in advance,

Steveo

I called AMEX prior to our last trip and they told me at the time that their rental car coverage did not extend to the USVI. Don't know if that was an informed statement or not.

I agree that Soft Winds is a very nice home. Great views(especially of Reef Bay) and very private! Now that more of the road is paved, it's a lot less "remote" feeling. I think you'll really like it.

liamsaunt, dd and I ventured out to the beach at the Ritz. The sand was brown and sort of packed (I AM spoiled by STJ!!!) and the waves rolling in were "muddy". Not our cup of tea. We did wade out a bit and stayed in the water only about 10 minutes. Now in fairness, this was the day Dean w...

Yup, I think it is one of those food trucks and he's added an awning out front. His pates (fried bread stuffed with ground beef, chicken, salt-fish or conch) are the best. One of my most favorite things on St John!

Oops! I should have mentioned the reason! We were told that they've had lots of problems with Algae bloom, so they have switched to a salt system for managing the PH. We have one in our pool at home and have been very happy with it. Anyhow, just as promised, the pool was filled and in beautiful oper...
