My son and nephew encountered a machete man in the Fish Bay Ghut in March. He also had a net up that he said he was catching bats in. I think he scared the you know what out of them and I would have loved to have seen how fast they ran straight uphill to get back to our villa!

How I long for 90 degrees! Even 80 would be great. We are stuck in the 50's and 60's here in the north country and we're dying for summer. Sure helps having all these great STJ photos to drool over!

Thanks for the offers! My husband is taking off to visit a friend in Kansas City and he swears he's not coming back until the snow is gone. That could be May! So I'll just keep dreaming of those warm St. John beaches!

Can I fit in someone's suitcase?

I'm looking out my window at the 22 inches of snow that fell on Sunday and I've just read that we should expect another foot by Friday. And to think I was sweating on the beach at Francis Bay just 3 short weeks ago!

We rented a couple of weeks ago from Calypso. Their office is located above Margarita Phil's and you pick up the dinghy at the National Park dock. Their rentals have a center console which I read that some people like better. The full day rental (9-4) was $195 + 25 gas. They put a $500 deposit on yo...

GinaXOXO, You can look at T'ree Palms on vrbo.com--it's #47234. T'ree Palms would not be considered a luxury rental, but I didn't have luxury $$ to spend. It was, however, very comfortable! Great beds, pillows and sheets! The kitchen had a 4 burner gas cooktop and toaster oven and microwave. We used...

First Timer's Trip Report

My husband, 17 year old son and nephew had a great week on the island. I chose St. John for purely selfish reasons--beautiful beaches with little development on them and a bit of a wilderness feel because of the National Park. I was not disappointed! My husband is not big on the beach (he'd rather b...

We did yesterday's US Airways check in, too. We arrived at the airport around 2:15 and were at the gate by 3:30. Then our flight boarded early and actually left the ground early! I guess all that did, though, was get us home before the 6 inches of snow on our truck had time to melt! Re-entry is tough!

I kind of wondered that, too, minnjim. They kept talking about this thing wrapping around and affecting more than just north shores.?

We did a Virgin Gorda trip today and it was pretty bumpy on the way over. Lots of water in The Baths that our guide said is not normally there and we had to dock in the harbor and taxi over. My boys wanted to jump off one of the high rocks, but the surf was much too high. Snorkeling at the caves was...

We did Salt Pond yesterday and it was pretty busy--lots more people than normal we heard. No surprise given the conditions on the north. The Lion in da Sun guys wisely canceled our BVI trip today, but we managed to find a spot with Calypso for tomorrow. Larger boat and I guess they are taking a sout...

It sure made for great body surfing at Cinnamon this afternoon! We were out in a dinghy this morning and early afternoon when it started to roll. It was great fun, but I'm glad I'm comfortable driving a boat! Dont' know how it will affect our Lion in da Sun charter on Thursday, though!

Thanks for the info on Tamarind.

So many wonderful places to try and of course, not enough days/nights to fit them all in!

Maybe we'll see you at the Beach Bar on Sunday! I'll be with my husband and our son that towers over us at 6'2" and my blonde nephew. We might be easy to spot. The excitement of it has really hit me--I think I've logged on to this forum about 10 times already today!
