Re: Direct access on the beach
Either the first or second floor units would work for you at Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina. The swimming beach is in front of the A,B,or C building. You can walk right out the door and be on the beach if you are in a ground floor unit. You are also in walking distance to the Marina if you want to...

Re: VRBO has initiated their new service fee
I am not sure why, but my bookings are down versus last year. The tax increase and VRBO fee are probably part of the reason but I suspect there are other things as well.
How are bookings going for other propety owners this year versus last?

Re: provisioning on STT
The produce at CUL is single servings, so you can pick out two onions, 4 potatoes, 2 limes etc, where as you need to buy a bag at Plaza Extra for many items. I think CUL could save you some money but it is a big store with long lines at check out. I think it makes sense to hit CUL if you live there ...

I find that fruit ripens much faster in the islands than what I am used to so don't overstock in the beginning.

The hotel tax is 12.5% bur some places also have an energy charge. It should be disclosed in your contract but ask why anyway.
To put this in perspective if a week rental is $5000 then the additional tax is $125. If you can afford to fly and stay then $125 shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Re: Rewards points for airfare
There are so many different reward programs and banks may vary from one to the other, but I have used Visa reward points on many trips. You can choose your seat and record your frequent flyer number. The only problem I have had is that once or twice the information on seat and FF number did not go t...

Re: Last Day - Magen's Bay or STJ?
If you have a 5ish flight you would be driving into town during the rush hour and the traffic can be brutal. I would go to Emerald Beach (aka Lindberg Beach) and enjoy a very nice beach with a bar and restaurant and be 5 minutes away from the airport. Keep in mind they advise being at the airport 2 ...

Re: Need 3-Month Furnished Rental
Check to see if utilities are included in the rentals you are looking at. Water and electricity are very expensive. Last month my electric bill was over $600 for the month. If you can get a vacation rental for $1300/month including utilities take it. December is peak season and vacation rentals go t...

Re: new places to eat
It would help to know the last time you were in STT There have been several changes in the last year and even more in the last two or three years. In Red Hook Molly Malones is now run by the people from Fish Tails. The Cellar went out of business and a new place called Melt is there. They specialize...

This was posted on a different forum some time ago. It might help the clueless if it was posted on the entrance to the beach BEACH RULES 1. Do not touch, stand on, remove, walk on, or in any way damage the coral. It may look like a rock, but it is a living organism that tourist regularly kill and da...

Re: BVI boat excursion: Bad Kitty vs. New Horizons II
With 5 people the cost of a private charter will be close to the cost of the larger group boats. With a private charter you can determine where you go and what you do. The Baths trip will be cheaper on a group boat as you pay for gas with a private charter but if you want to hit several islands in t...

Re: Floatie Question
I have used gas station air machines to inflate floaties, but I bring a needle that is used with a pump to inflate a football or basketball. You can get them at sporting goods stores. Hold it tight in the air hose or it will go flying.
It is a lot easier to bring a few little needles than a pump.

Re: Sapphire Beach Resort Opinions Needed
As I recall in 2007 when you were last there, the restaurants were closed. If that is the case then the only major changes are that 3 of the buildings (A, B,and D) had complete exterior refurbishing done. The pool bar and main restaurant will also be refurbished and work was started, and will be don...

Shame on you my fellow NE'ers. If you have been taking those VI towels to Cape Ann and Block Island they will be freezing. Wrap them in an electric blanket until you can properly rescue them to the VI.

Just to update a bit. Bigbambooze is now a Senior Frog, and Island Times does not open until 4PM. There are several other restaurants but for a short stay the only other one i would recommend is Molly Malones.
