Crucian Hacienda Review
11/25/2010 – 12/3/2010
This is a beautiful villa located up a steep driveway above the Divi and below the Contessa’s castle – south facing with sunrise views. It is a bit out of the way – a trip to the grocery store was a 25 minute drive one way – and there are not a lot of dining options nearby. This was not important to us however as we like to cook and appreciated the selection offered at the grocery stores on the island. We prepared some great meals for ourselves – including the lobster tails we picked up at the La Reine farmers market on Saturday. Since there were 7 of us, cooking in proved to be very economical as well.
The kitchen was well equipped with all manner of cookware, flatware, dishes, etc. There were some paper goods and other supplies to get us started. All the appliances were in good shape – the oven was brand new having been installed the day prior to our arrival. A great feature of this villa is the restaurant style ice maker in the garage. It was wonderful not to have to worry about having enough ice. There is also an extra refrigerator in the laundry room that was handy for beverages. The kitchen is nicely designed with 4 bar chairs that allow the cooks and non-cooks to chat while food is being prepared.
The living room was not used much by our group except to turn on the sound system, which was very good. There is satellite TV there and in the master bedroom. There are two sofas and a coffee table in this living area. There isn’t any a/c in this area, only the bedrooms, but we never needed it anyway. The villa has french doors that open to the covered patio. We opened these every day along with the front door which provided a wonderful breeze. We were perfectly comfortable at all times.
The bedrooms are all uniquely decorated and well appointed. There are three bedrooms down a hall from the living area. The master is huge with a king sized bed, an enormous walk in closet and french doors that open on to the patio where there is a rope hammock. One bedroom also has a king bed and the other has a queen. There is also a bedroom that is accessed from the patio only that has a queen bed. Each bathroom is very special with hand painted sinks and interesting tiles. The linens are very nice and there are plenty of nice fluffy towels. The beds were very comfortable.
The outdoor space is very nice. There are two levels – the upper level has both covered and uncovered space and the lower deck is the pool deck. The covered portion of the patio is wonderful and this is where we spent most of our time. There is a coffee table with four chairs and a dining table that seats 6. There is also a nice grill. There are loungers on this level too. The pool deck has lounge chairs and a couple of small tables as well. The pool water was very “refreshing” – great for dipping to cool off.
The property is managed by Marti at Vacation St. Croix. Our experience with this company was great. Everything was handled smoothly and Marti even handled our rental car paperwork with Centerline. Very convenient! The few times we had to call (gas grill didn’t work when we changed the tank and one day the maid locked us out) we got an immediate response. We found the greeter, the maintenance men and Marti to be very pleasant and efficient. I highly recommend using Vacation St. Croix if you are planning on renting a villa. We really enjoyed our stay at the Hacienda.
